realMyst is all-things Myst, but amazingly more real. You can explore anywhere, unfettered, and in realtime! Pick your own path through the forest on Myst Island. Look lazily upward into the Channelwood Age trees. Relax next to the rippling fountain as the sun sets in the Selenitic Age. Spin around for a full panoramic tour of Sirrus’ throne room. Seek shelter from the thunderstorm in Stoneship Age.

And what could possibly make that experience even more real? Now you can have all of that on your iOS device with nothing between you and Myst but the touch of your finger - the sheerest of interfaces between you and the surrealistic island adventure that will become your world.

Pros and cons of realMyst app for iPhone and iPad

realMyst app good for

Having grown up with Myst, and since I had played the original this game is still just as beautiful and nostalgic as its ever been. The controls (will always be sort of clunky on a touchscreen) are minimalistic and very easy to grasp. It was great having full access to areas as well with realMyst. And while the graphics clearly take a plunge since the original and its adaptations on the PC its still easy to lose yourself with a set of headphones in the dark. The ages, which are the different worlds within the game, are still completely immersive. Definitely worth the buy if you come across this aged, but not forgotten classic.
I bought the original Myst for the Mac back when it was first released. At the time the imagery was amazing with a great sound track and a cleaver use of Sound, Video, and puzzles. I have to admit I was a fan of the whole story line and bought the first two books. Last week I downloaded an old Macintosh emulator and the original Myst. 256 color 640x480 images with tiny little videos was very unimpressive. I bought this version for my iPad 4 and have to say It is true to the original and brings a nice immersive feel to the world of Myst with great quality. For those who are into modern video this may seem a bit dated, but it is great as far as I am concerned. I loved the addition of the Rime Age. I remembered a number of the puzzles and others felt like learning a new. I am looking forward to grabbing Riven for iPad too.
Ran fine with no issues, just like I remember. This is an awesome port of a legendary game. Glad I can enjoy it again. Controls are more intuitive if you invert them in settings.
My sound isnt working It only works when I have headphones in. For example I wanted to play it using mirroring with my Apple TV and the sound doesnt come out through the TV. Also it doesnt come out the phones speakers. Only time I hear it is with head phones. Other than that this is an amazing app. I played this game when I was super small and this is just so nostalgic for me. Thanks for updating it and making it look and work so great. Just help with the sound :(.
Great job on realMyst! This was even more fun to play than the original, thanks to the real-time movement around the game. This game has stood the test of time very well.
Since updating to the latest IOS I lost the audio portion of the game. Have to wait for an update to game or IOS to continue.

Some bad moments

There is no sound at all. This game sucks, I want my money back.
At first everything played smoothly and there were no bugs or glitches. However, in the Selenitic Age the game crashed. When I tried to re-open it went to the linking screen, showed a brief flash of the game and then went back to the linking screen. This just continued happening over and over. For 6.99 I expected higher quality performance. Now I likely have to re-start the game, and will lose all my progress up to that point. Very disappointing.
If you had to choose between faster response times and better controls over slightly better graphics which would you choose. Most gamers would choose better gameplay over slightly better graphics. The movement in realMyst is unintuitive. To view left, right, up or down you need to pull the screen in the opposite direction. Too frustrating to be fun. I bought both versions and played them extensively and the original is better all the way around. The graphics in realMyst are only 15% better so the compromised gameplay isnt worth the improved appearance.
Its not allowing me to select the 12th button, so Im trapped on this level!
After a few hours into the first puzzle I somehow got stuck in an infinite loop with one of my save games. It loads my place, kicks me out loads my place, etc. ... forever. I cant access any of my other save games. I simply dont want to start again. Theres no "contact us" or troubleshooting in the help pages. Id ask for my money back if I could.
What an incredibly boring game, just running around in dead landscapes with pseudo-witty riddles you have to solve exactly as the programmer has made them up. No play, no fun, no humour. Nice 3D, works well, so one star.
