Wonderful. Amazing what graphics you can get out of an ipad2...
Having fond memories of playing realMyst on Mac/PC, I was really looking forward to its revival on the iPad. Unfortunately, the iOS port of realMyst is simply not very good. First off, the game is technically a mess. The biggest issue is the excessive loading screens, which constantly pause the game (including audio) abruptly for a few seconds at a time, and pop up in places you wouldnt normally expect (e.g. walking down a hallway). The framerate also drops quite heavily, particularly when youre overlooking large scenic areas, like the forest on main Myst island. These technical issues put a dent in the overall atmosphere and real-time exploration experience. Graphics are simply not as good as the original (which perhaps is to be expected on the iPad, though there are much more graphically intense games available that run smoothly). Theres an inconsistent mix of high and low resolution textures throughout the game. Notes and letters are often on the low res side, making them sometimes difficult to make out. And the dark, moody atmosphere has largely been replaced with a sparser, more colourful look. Day/night cycles are out too. Controls work OK once you enable looking while moving. Pathing could be much improved, as youll often get stuck on a corner or tree and have to re-orient yourself in order to move on. It can also be difficult to align yourself properly in order to flip a switch or hit a button. Being able to run seems like a misstep – it doesnt work well in the small, confined areas of Myst, and kind of ruins the calm and relaxed atmosphere. Overall realMyst is certainly playable and nice to have on an iPad, but unfortunately I cant see myself playing through this version until the end.
Always loved myst. They changed a few things like textures and small elements, something only a loser who played the original realmyst too many times would notice, so its no biggie. They also improved on some things, the water looks great. They put a lot of work into making the interface intuitive, you dont have to think about controls. Somewhat jerky sometimes but its not a big deal for a puzzle exploration game. Its only a few people working on this so I dont expect them to fix anything that doesnt work. Ive now run into an issue where the sound based puzzle in selenetic doesnt play sound. Now I cant progress. Rendered unplayable. I think they just wanted to release a game but lack the resources and manpower to do it right. Bummer.
Just bought a new iPad and this game looks and works absolutely perfect. This is the way Myst was meant to be played. Timeless, haunting, mesmerizing beauty. Thank you Cyan
Having played the original Myst I succumbed to a bit of nostalgia. Hmmm. It is a bit difficult to play when the sound cuts out when activating various components such as retrieving the message from Atrius in the fore chamber at the dock. Had to restart the game but the same problem re-occurs. Hopefully they will issue bug fixes; please! As it is it is unplayable.
Installed the game on 3rd generation Ipad, after going into water container (down the stairs) to activate it game crashed, Tried several times to re boot, finally erased the app from the ipad. Im out $6.99. for my troubles..
I enjoyed this implementation of Myst, though there are a few little things that could be tweaked, such as the loading times or the indication of how the data load is happening.
I dont know what others are griping about! This is a beautiful version of one of the best games ever created. The controls are intuitive and the pauses to change scene are not at all an issue on the iPad 2. The only delay occurs when linking to a new age. I love the graphics and it is still a classic in computer gaming. Keep up the good work Cyan. Cannot wait to see Riven for the iPad 2 also!
This game is a disappointment. I dont like playing in the dark all the time. Why let us go into hallways that you have to find your way out of in total blackness.
I cant even start the game. I want my money back. Shame on you, Cyan Worlds!!
Big myst fan This though is jerky and loads screens a lot with big annoying pauses Also now Im stuck on a level as I can walk through the stairs like a ghost even though the platform is raised so cant continue I have iPad 3 so should not be this bad /sigh :(
I was excited to play this classic game in real 3D. Controls take some getting used to, but this game plays beautifully and I only experienced maybe 2-3 crashes through the entire duration of the game. Overall, a great fun experience.
But it crashes and reloads too frequently (iPad 3’ with lasted iOS).
Crashes on iPad mini with iOS 6.0.1. After opening credits, the screen reads "linking...". As the progress bar underneath reaches the end, the app crashes every time. Please fix this. Thank you.
Keeps locking up on the new ipad
Great job, loved playing this game from my childhood. Please make riven and all the others soon!
I dont see the attraction to the slow moving, tedious boring game. Always going back and forth doing the same things. I would recommend you look elsewhere for an adventure puzzle game. I have played many of These games and this is the worst one yet. Waste of money.....
Could I give this half a star. Im stuck in the mecanical age. The stairs are bugging. I want a refund.
This is one of the best puzzle solving and exploration games ever made, but its only for people who want to take their time and think their way through things. It works great with the iPad interface, instead of taking notes you can just take a screen shot of anything important. I ran into a few bugs on the Mechanical Age but saving and restarting the game seemed to fix it. Played it all through, worked great from then on.
Toward the end of game, Im wanting to do something with the "puzzle" behind the number panel in the dockside room. When I touch the little ball twice, the game closes!
